Mission Point Resort is located on 18 acres on the southeast side of the island. Which just so happens to be the best spot to view the sunrise!

2 – How To Get To Mission Point Resort

Once you arrive at the ferry dock, you can either take Mission Point Resort horse-drawn shuttle service, a horse-drawn taxi, or you can walk. The shuttle runs on a set schedule for guests once they arrive on the island and costs $7.00 per adult. The walk is only about 15 minutes and it’s the perfect time to take in the sites and sounds of Mackinac Island.

3 – Mission Point Resort Check In Time

The check-in time for Mission Point Resort is 4:00pm, and the check-out time is 11:00am. Since we arrived on the ferry in the morning, we called the front desk to see if we could get an earlier check-in. We were able to get into our room a couple hours earlier.

4 – What About My Luggage?

Before you hop on the ferry on the mainland, they will tag your luggage for Mission Point Resort and you will be given the bottom portion of that tag. HOLD ON TO IT! Once on the Island your luggage will be taken from the ferry dock directly to the Resort. This is such a great option to have, especially if you are traveling with kids. Then you don’t have to worry about hauling your luggage through town while also trying to keep your family together.

Remember the luggage claim ticket I mentioned? You will need it when you check-in so the Resort can make sure that your luggage is sent to the correct room.

On your day of departure, you can arrange to have your luggage picked up from your room and tagged for the appropriate time and ferry company. Again, make sure you hold on to your claim ticket.

If you are planning to discover more of the island on your last day, and you’re not sure what time you will head back to the mainland, Mission Point Resort gives you the option to have your luggage sent back to the mainland where it will be waiting for you to claim it once you arrive.

5 – Mission Point Resort Family Suite

Mission Point Resort is has two buildings with guest rooms; the Main Lodge and the Striates Lodge. The Main Lodge is located in more of the “hustle and bustle” of the resort (i.e. close to restaurants and shopping), while the Straits Lodge is a short walk from the Main Lodge for a more quiet stay.

During our visit, we stayed in the Mission Point Resort Straits Lodge building in a Family Suite. As a family of five, along with our 14 year old dog, the Family Suite was a great option.

Upon entering, there is a foyer that connects the bathroom and the two bedrooms; one with a king bed and the other with two twin beds. The room had been recently updated and included crisp white linens, fluffy pillows, and comfortable beds. The feel of the room gave off a relaxed coastal feel with a touch of Americana.

The bathroom was small, as it only contains the shower and toilet, but each bedroom has a sink and vanity space. This was nice to have because multiple people could be getting ready at the same time without fighting for space in the bathroom.

The Straits Lodge has a certain number of rooms blocked off for guests who are staying with a pet. There is a green space at the end of the building, complete with doggie bags, and you will also receive a welcome bag for your dog when you check in. Guests with pets also pay a one-time nonrefundable deep cleaning fee of $100, per guest room. You can read more about Mission Point Resort’s Pet Policy here.

7 – Pool & Hot Tubs

During our stay on Mackinac Island, the weather struggled to get out of the upper 60’s. But thanks to a heated pool and TWO hot tubs, our family was still able to enjoy the water.

One thing that everyone can enjoy is the large lawn, known as the Great Lawn, located on the waterfront overlooking Lake Huron and the Straits of Mackinac. Grab a seat in one of their signature white Adirondack chairs and watch the freighters go by, have a picnic, fly a kite, or just let the kids burn off some energy.

10 – Mission Point Resort Mini Golf

One of our family’s favorite thing to do at Mission Point Resort was a round of mini golf. The Greens of Mackinac is an 18-hole putting course, with views of the Straits and Lake Huron that are truly breathtaking! You won’t believe what it turns into at night!

That’s right! At night the Greens of Mackinac course turns into Mission Point Glow Golf! I don’t know about you, but this was the first time I have ever tried to golf when it was dark outside! Thanks to the glow-in-the-dark golf ball, and strobe lights attached to the flag sticks, we didn’t do as bad as I thought we would. Glow Golf made for a great “mommy and son” date for my son and I.

A special thank you to Mission Point Resort for the complimentary round of Glow Golf.

11 – They Have Their Own Theater!

If you love Mackinac Island, you have probably heard of the movie, “Somewhere In Time” that was filmed on the island. Well did you know that a portion of that movie was filmed at the Mission Point Resort Theater, known as the Mackinac Island Movie Theater? Pretty cool!

Step inside this beautiful, historic movie theater, and sit in the very seat that Christopher Reeve sat in during filming. Thanks to the Mackinac Island Arts Council, you can catch a movie throughout the week. Oh, and don’t worry if you haven’t seen “Somewhere In Time” before, it just so happens to be one of the movies offered. I highly recommend it!

12 – Mission Point Resort Restaurants

There are multiple dining options located on the Mission Point Resort property:

  • Chianti: For foodies and wine lovers.
  • Round Island Kitchen: Michigan twist on comfort foods.
  • Boxwood Coffeeshop & Cafe: offers a variety of to-go items including specialty coffees, teas, beer and wine, snacks, gelato, and hot and cold breakfast and lunch options.
  • Bistro on the Greens: Known for craft cocktails and Mediterranean menu.

There is even a small market inside the Straits Lodge that offers drinks, snack, and pre-made sandwiches.

One of the great things for families staying at Mission Point Resort is they have a Kids Eat Free program. Kids under 12 eat free off the kids menu at either the Round Island Kitchen or the Bistro on The Greens. Kids need to be with their parents, who must be dining off of the regular menu.

A special thank you to Mission Point Resort for the complimentary dinner for our family at the Round Island Kitchen.

Mission Point Resort Review

This was our first time staying overnight on Mackinac island, and the Mission Point Resort was a perfect option for our family! We booked their Bed & Breakfast package for a two night stay. The package included our ferry tickets to and from the Island, as well as breakfast at the Round Island Kitchen.

Our family suite room was spacious enough for our family of five, plus our dog. The grounds were beautiful with tree lined walk ways, stunning flowers, and plenty of seating in their signature white Adirondack chairs on the Great Lawn. Even though the weather was in the upper 60’s, our children were still able to have fun in the heated pool and two hot tubs.

Mission Point Resort offers so much to do for adults, couples, and families that we couldn’t possibly fit it all in during our stay. We look forward to another stay in the near future to discover more of everything they offer.

Well…living in Northern Michigan I can tell you that whenever we have visitors from out of state, the first thing they want to do while visiting is go to Mackinac Island! It is so quaint without automobiles, plus all the horses everywhere. We ALWAYS bike around the island and typically enjoy the butterfly house after buying our Mackinac Island Fudge…nothing smoother out there to buy than that! Glad you enjoyed the Mission Pointe! The Grand Hotel is lovely as well!

The amazing thing about Mackinac Island is how everyone wants to visit, out-of-town visitors and even those of us who live in Michigan. The amazing thing about it is that there is no other place like it. I caught myself multiple times just stopping to take in the sounds of the horses passing us. Oh, and the fudge!!! My mouth is watering as type this response! Thank goodness they can ship it!

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to bike around the island due to rain. But it’s at the top of our list for when we return!

Mission Point Resort was so family-friendly and the rooms were comfortable and clean! The mini-golf was a great way to end the day.

I was so thankful that I didn’t have to worry about getting our luggage to the Resort AND keep an eye on my kids and dog. Plus, it gave us time to explore the Island before we could check in.
