Do you ever plan surprise adventures for your children while on vacation?

During each trip, I always try to find something special for each one of our children to take part in. That way each child has a memorable experience every place we go. Plus, it keeps everyone happy, and I am all for happy children while traveling! My younger daughter is currently obsessed with horses and she is always asking if she can go horseback riding, or better yet, buy a horse. (We live in the city!)

Imagine my excitement when I discovered that Davy Crockett Riding Stables was located just down the road from where we were staying in Townsend, TN. My daughter actually pointed to it out on our way to the Tuckaleechee Caverns, and asked if we could go. I tried to keep a straight face as I told her we would have to see if we had time during our trip. (I’m a terrible liar!) Little did she know that I had already reserved our time for a couple days later.

The Big Day!

Needless to say, she squealed with delight as we pulled into the parking lot. She was a little nervous at first… horses are a lot bigger when you’re standing next to one versus seeing them out in a field. The staff was extremely friendly and went our of their way to match her with the right horse. The owner even took her around the parking lot until she was comfortable to start our ride.

After we all got on our horses, we set off on the trail. We made our way up the foothills through a mostly wooded trail, which provided great shade from the heat of the sun. Our guide, Lee, was very knowledgeable about the area and made sure to check in with the children throughout the ride to make sure they were doing alright.

Our Experience At Davy Crockett Riding Stables

Our whole family enjoyed every minute of our ride. However, the look on my daughter’s face during the ride is why our experience at Davy Crockett Riding Stables is easily one we will never forget. No worries if it is your first time riding a horse either. Their tours are for all ages and experiences, and the horses were very tame, and great with children.

Horseback riding is a great way to be out in nature while taking in the beauty of the Smoky Mountains. Your guide will even take your family/group photo at the end of your ride, so don’t forget to smile!

If you are in the Smoky Mountain area, and looking for a memorable outdoor experience, I highly recommend checking out Davy Crockett Riding Stables.
