The condo is close to swimming beaches, grocery stores, shops, restaurants, and farmers markets. Kona House is located about 15 minutes from Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport.

Our check-in was easy, which was great after such a long journey from home! The condo was very clean and well thought out. We arrived at night and found the condo well lit with lights left on for us. There were maps and brochures to help us get to know the area too. The condo has a washer and dryer, which is huge for us because it means we can pack less on vacation to save on airport fees and avoid the hassle of dragging around heavy luggage (I packed our family of four into one suitcase for this trip!!!).

We stayed at Kona House during the month of December (2018) and the owners even had a Christmas tree set up (watch for it in the video tour, below), as well as festive touches throughout. How thoughtful!

Living area

Overall, the condo had a very welcoming feeling. It actually felt more like we were visiting a friend than staying in a rental.

The open floor plan felt spacious and was great for our family of four. Our kids loved the fish tank and the neighbor’s cat who came to visit out on the porch.

Dining area and kitchen.

The owners left a bowl of fresh citrus fruits as well as coffee supplies, which was a huge help come breakfast.

Kitchen

The kitchen was stocked with dinnerware, silverware, serving platters, drinking glasses and grilling accessories. We enjoyed grilling out a lot!

Master Bedroom (bathroom entry is to the right of bed)

The master bedroom was very comfortable. There was a large wall closet with plenty of room to unpack and store our luggage. At night, the ocean breezes swept through the windows and cooled the condo nicely. I enjoyed hearing the tropical birds in the morning.

The master bathroom is bright, updated and was very clean. When we stayed there was shampoo and soaps left for us to use.

The second bedroom overlooks the back patio. It has a large closet and a bookcase waiting with Hawaii travel guides to help you plan any last minute vacation details.

The hallway bathroom was also very clean when we stayed and the shower is huge. There was a hairdryer in the drawer also, which was a nice surprise.

Hallway Bathroom

Grilling on the back patio was fun and relaxing. The deck overlooks the backyard which is shaded by an enormous avocado tree. Stored outside, we found snorkel gear, an umbrella, body boards, and portable chairs for us to enjoy at one of the many nearby beaches. Beach towels were also provided.

By chance, the day we checked-out, I ran into the owner while she was outside grabbing cleaning bins to restock. Right away, I was impressed she was this involved with her rental. It now made sense as to why nothing seemed overlooked… I assume she is routinely present to make sure her condo provides a great experience for her guests.

During our conversation she was very pleasant and offered her favorite options for sightseeing on the island. She told me where we could see cliff jumpers (which we did) and a little about the green sand beach. Throughout our stay, she was helpful and responsive to any questions we had (even while traveling herself!) and made communication easy.

We really enjoyed our stay at Kona House and plan on booking again when visiting the Big Island! We appreciate all of the hard work and effort the owners put forth to make our family’s experience a remarkable one.
